GCD Welcomes New Members

At our June meeting the Garden Club of Denver welcomed three new apprentices and one new affiliate member to our 2019 class.

Affiliate member Tish Szurek is from the French Broad River Garden Club of Asheville, North Carolina. As a master gardener, she was involved in their Garden & Design Committee. Tish was also active in the club’s two annual fundraisers. After retiring from law, she enjoys volunteering at the NICU of Children’s Hospital and the Alliance of Therapy Dogs at nursing homes.

Elizabeth Weigand was proposed by Janet Manning, Nancy Schotters and Wendy White. Elizabeth grew up helping her mother with projects in the Lake Forest, Illinois Garden Club. She owns a floral design company, Somerset Floral Design. Elizabeth and her family have moved into Anne Weckbaugh’s home and they treasure the legacy and challenge of that garden.

Marianne Sulser was proposed by Nancy Schotters, Janet Manning and Cindy Scott. Marianne was raised in Louisana and then moved to Houston with her husband. Now as a retired lawyer, she is a term trustee at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Marianne loves flower arranging and is a compulsive composter. She would like to learn more about our conservation issues.

Heidi Hammell was proposed by Bonnie Grenney, Nancy Jones and Judy Grant. She is Carol Schmidt’s daughter and thrilled to be involved in our club. Heidi loves floral design and gardening.

We welcome these new members to the Garden Club of Denver!
