While we all know that Garden Club of Denver members have been busy lately doing amazing things, the Garden Club of America is featuring GCD activities and authors in their publications. Here’s what’s going on:
- Cindy Scott, who is currently serving as the Vice Chairman for the Conservation Study Trip, wrote an article for the Spring edition of ConWatch about Carmel-by-the-Sea Garden Club members who, after a general meeting about the environmental impacts of using plastic straws, partnered with local elementary school students to replace plastic straws with biodegradable paper straws. These actions eventually led to a new city law that places regulations on all food take-out packaging including cutlery, containers, cups and straws. - Past President Suellen White is interviewed by KUSA Channel 9 News for our work on the Centennial Celebration Project to build awareness for Colorado’s National Parks among elementary school children. Click here to view our story on the main page of the GCA Website in the News & Events section.
- The October issue of GCA’s eNews features a photo of our own Ruth Hopfenbeck receiving her GCA Years of Service Award at the annual GCD meeting last June. The photo accompanies an article about the GCA Members Years of Service Program. Click here to view the GCA October eNews.
