Sign Up for Colorado on the Road

Colorado on the Road Co-Chairs Becky Schaub and Janet Manning are looking forward to another adventure with the Broadmoor Garden Club on Tuesday, July 16 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. We’ll learn about 5 Fridges Farm, a 13-acre working farm in the middle of an urban setting in Wheat Ridge. Amanda Weaver, PhD, professor, and owner of the property, uses it as a research lab and classroom, teaching urban agriculture, sustainability, and environmental science. We will tour the farm, meet the animals, and learn about dry farming and sustainable farm practices. After the tour, we will enjoy lunch at one of the outdoor event spaces at the farm. We look forward to sharing this experience with Broadmoor Garden Club.  For more information about 5 Fridges Farm, click here.

Signups will be available soon and are limited to 20 members of each club.  There will be a cost for the lunch.

Amanda is a local Wheat Ridge, Colorado resident and owner of the 13-acre sustainable urban farm, 5 Fridges Farm. While finishing a dissertation on the viability of local food production in Colorado, Amanda apprenticed with long time Wheat Ridge resident Louis Turner with dairy goats in the urban environment. Amanda later bought the neighboring historical farm where she started her own herd of dairy goats. While teaching at CU Denver, she now maintains dairy and weed grazing herds, flocks of chickens and turkeys, hives of bees, as well as growing a variety of vegetables for local restaurant sales. Amanda uses her farm as her research lab and classroom, teaching urban agriculture, sustainability, and environmental science.
